What Is the Cat's Eye?

November 11th, 2024

Founded in the 1939/40 season, Catamount has a longer history than most ski areas, and with that history comes an immeasurable array of runs skied, memories created, and stories told. That history also brings a long list of logos, brochures, photos, and other marketing materials from across the decades. One such marketing material was the Cat's Eye.

If you have been a Catamount skier or rider for long enough, you may already be familiar with the Cat's Eye. The Cat's Eye was a promotional newspaper "insert" that ran in The Independent, a now defunct newspaper based in Hillsdale, NY, from roughly 1975 to 1990. "Insert" is in quotations because the Cat's Eye was in fact nearly a newspaper on it's own. Below you can check out the whopping 16 page Cat's Eye from fall/winter 1989, celebrating Catamount's 50th year since opening!

If you are having trouble reading any of the pages, you can right click on them, save/download the images, and then open them on your computer's photo viewing program to better zoom in.

If you have any stories, marketing materials, photos, fun facts, or anything else from Catamount's history that you would like to share, we would love to talk to you! Please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
